With bases across the country and a fleet of 25 helicopters available, Arctic Aviation can respond rapidly where the need is greatest. The fixed preparedness period runs from 15 April to 15 August, with a helicopter stationed at Geiteryggen Airport outside Skien to cover Southern Norway.
During periods of elevated wildfire risk, additional helicopters can be deployed to other parts of the country. This decentralized model provides significant flexibility and enables a rapid reinforcement of resources in high-risk areas.
The helicopters are primarily used for fire suppression, supporting ground firefighting operations, preventing further spread, and assisting with aerial observation and mapping. They can also be used for transporting personnel and equipment.
Through this agreement, Arctic Aviation plays an important role in Norway’s national wildfire preparedness and response system.
